The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has called for the establishment of a specialized squad to enforce dust mitigation norms for vehicles transporting construction debris. Violations will incur penalties by the transport department. Express investigations revealed both civic and private entities disregarding these norms, as outlined in the Mumbai Air Pollution Mitigation Plan (MAPMP) released by the BMC earlier this year.

Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Iqbal Singh Chahal, in response to these findings, issued comprehensive guidelines to address air pollution sources in the city. These guidelines include strict directives for vehicles transporting construction debris, requiring proper coverage with tarpaulin sheets and adherence to weight limits.

Furthermore, Chahal announced that experts from the MPCB and BMC will monitor pollution levels from refineries, Tata Power Plant, and RCF, ensuring compliance with pollution control measures. Regular samples will be chemically analyzed to maintain pollution-free operations at these installations.
