Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal issued a strong rebuttal to the Enforcement Directorate’s summons, alleging that it was leaked to select BJP leaders to tarnish his image and reputation. He accused the summons of being “motivated and issued for extraneous considerations” and criticized BJP leaders for making statements about his impending arrest before he received the document. Kejriwal posted three questions before the Enforcement Directorate regarding the summons, expressing confusion about the capacity in which he was being summoned, the lack of details about the case, and the absence of specification regarding his individual or official capacity.
Due to his commitments as the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party and Chief Minister of Delhi, Kejriwal indicated his inability to appear before the Enforcement Directorate, stating he needed to travel for campaigning and provide political guidance to party workers. He requested the summons to be recalled, emphasizing its vagueness and alleged political motivation. The Enforcement Directorate had summoned Kejriwal in connection with a money-laundering probe related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam but received a response indicating his absence due to campaign commitments. The Chief Minister’s office called the notice illegal and politically motivated, suggesting it was issued on BJP’s directives and should be withdrawn to allow Kejriwal to focus on electioneering in four states.
