NEW DELHI: A significant political event unfolded in Agra as Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of Samajwadi Party (SP), joined Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ on Sunday, February 25. This collaboration comes after the recent agreement between the Congress and SP regarding seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a gathering alongside Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders, Akhilesh Yadav emphasised the crucial need to safeguard democracy and the Constitution in the face of current challenges. He highlighted the importance of realising the vision of BR Ambedkar, which, according to him, has been compromised under the BJP’s rule. Yadav called for a collective effort to remove the BJP from power, stressing the slogan ‘BJP hatao, desh bachao, sankat mitao’ (remove BJP, save the nation and end the crisis).
Drawing attention to Agra’s reputation as the city of love, Yadav expressed satisfaction with the initiation of a metaphorical “shop of love” there, symbolising unity and inclusivity. He underscored the significance of collaboration between the INDIA bloc and PDA (Pichare, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak) to counter the ruling NDA.
Yadav also addressed the plight of farmers, highlighting their discontent with the current government and expressing confidence in the INDIA bloc’s ability to address their concerns and provide them with due respect.
Rahul Gandhi, echoing similar sentiments, emphasised the importance of justice in combating injustice and hatred. He emphasised the essence of their endeavour to establish a “shop of love” amidst a market dominated by animosity.
The joint appearance of Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav in Agra holds political significance, reminiscent of their collaboration before the 2017 state polls. This alliance marks a strategic move for the opposition bloc ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, showcasing unity and strength.
